Who does what?
Hertfordshire County Council
The authority has departments responsible for the following:
- Adult Care – asses the needs of, and arranges care and support for frail, elderly, disabled, or vunerable adults
- Children, Schools, and Families – provides benefits from educational opportunities, health care and social care (including family support, care homes, fostering and adoption)
- Community Information – books, tapes, videos and the Internet are available at the county council’s network of more than fifty libraries
- Environment – roads, rights of way, waste disposal (not collection), conservation
- Fire and Rescue
- Trading Standards – ensures fair and safe trade in the county through inspection and advice to businesses and consumers
- Registrars – Record births, marriages and deaths in the area
East Herts District Council
The authority is responsible for the following:
- Art and Leisure Services
- Housing and Council Tax Benefits
- Planning Applications and Breaches
- Car Parks
- Council Tax Collection
- Electoral Registration
- Environmental Health
- Housing Policy
- Land Changes
- Markets
- Parks and Open Spaces
- Refuse Collection and Street Cleaning
Bishop’s Stortford Town Council
These authorities have responsibility for:
- Allotments
- Open Spaces
- Cemeteries
- Bus Shelters
- Public Amenities
- Tourist Information Centre
- Closed Circuit Television
Parish Councils
